The evening was a great celebration of the group’s successful completion of the overseas phase of the program. Fifteen young men and women from Dublin and Belfast have been in Boston for the past seven weeks training in local community-based organizations. They now return home to seek out new jobs and/or further education.
The unofficial theme of the night was courage, and three participants gave touching speeches on their experiences of living and working in Boston. IIIC’s deputy director Ronnie Millar, says “it was a privilege to observe these courageous young men and women move outside their comfort zone to learn new skills, and to move forward with their lives and careers. They really thrived on the challenge and we wish them all good luck back home in Ireland.”
Thanks to Michaela Rafferty, the group supervisor from Belfast, for all her leadership, hard work and support of the group. A big thank-you, and heartfelt appreciation to all of the host families for opening their homes to the group, and to the host organizations for providing these young people with the opportunity to work and learn in Boston.
