Although Massachusetts is among the highest ranked states for having residents with health insurance, there are still more than 100,000 people who are still uninsured; many of whom are immigrant households. Some individuals may believe that they are not eligible to receive health care coverage because of their status; however, the state has a variety of programs that work to insure all state residents. Before unexpected injury or illness occur, it is important to seek out options so you are not left to deal with a large financial or personal burden from being uninsured.
Healthcare for All (HCFA) is a free helpline resource available to any individual who is seeking information about healthcare coverage for themselves or their loved ones. HCFA is an independent statewide consumer advocacy organization and their mission is to create a “consumer centered health care system that provides comprehensive, affordable, accessible, culturally competent, high quality care and consumer education for everyone, especially the vulnerable”
HCFA representatives are available to answer questions about health coverage in Massachusetts and to inform people about free and lower cost programs that they could be eligible for regardless of their individual circumstances. They also answer general insurance questions and help you to apply for health insurance in a quick and easy telephone call. To contact them, call 1-800-272-4232 between the hours of 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday to speak to a counselor or visit their page online at www.hcfama.org and click on their helpline information.
