The Massachusetts State government is presently considering passing a bill that would allow state residents to apply for a learner’s permit and driver’s license, regardless of their immigration status. If it passes, the law would not only improve the lives of thousands of immigrants, but would also increase the safety of our state roads. Vermont, Connecticut and Illinois, among others, have already passed similar bills.
The IIIC is encouraged by the recent progress being made and we ask for your support. The Joint Transportation Committee of the State Legislature will soon be holding a public hearing and we need Irish immigrants to attend and to speak up in favor of such a bill. Please call Johanne at 617-542-7654 to learn more about this opportunity. This Bill could pass and you can help make it happen.
