We walk to honor loved ones and to save lives

Suicide has become a disturbing trend in our community, and we are passionate about preventing it.  With this issue close to our hearts, The Irish International Immigrant Center invites you to join us or sponsor a friend to raise awareness about suicide and how it can be prevented.

Why is Suicide Prevention & Awareness so needed NOW?

The Central Statistics Office of Ireland reports that over a 100 people died by suicide in Ireland alone in the first three months of 2013, with 85% being men between the ages of 15 and 54, many of them working in the construction industry. 60,000 people are admitted to A&E departments in Ireland each year with self-harming injuries and the majority of these are women.

Within the United States, suicide claims more than 38,000 lives each year, with a rate of someone dying by suicide every 13.7 minutes. As the 4th leading cause of death in the United States among adults ages 18-65 it is important to realize that this is a public health issue that does not discriminate by way of age, gender, ethnicity or socio-economic factors or status.
